Challenging Norwalk Has Stoffer Looking to Denver
The best part of having races just a few short weeks apart for Geico-backed Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Karen Stoffer is not having to wait long for another opportunity at success. After what proved to be an incredibly challenging weekend for the team at the Summit NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, Stoffer can't wait to get another chance at the upcoming Mopar Mile High Nationals from Denver, Colo. July 11-13.
In Norwalk Stoffer battled through what proved to be trying qualifying sessions. Qualifying on Friday was cut short due to moisture on the track.
"It was a tough weekend all around," Stoffer said. "We were fighting all weekend long to find the right tune-up."
Stoffer finished off Saturday in the No. 8 spot with a respectable run of 7.07.
In the opening round of eliminations Stoffer was defeated by a narrow margin as her 7.06 fell just short of Chris Rivas' 7.05
"That's racing," Stoffer said of the close defeat.
Following the event Stoffer fell to No. 11 in the hotly-contested PowerAde Point series. The minor setback hasn't caused Stoffer to lose sight of the big goal.
"We are a good team and we are going to continue working hard," Stoffer said. "We are set on getting back in the top ten before the cutoff."
Stoffer knows all to well that oxygen-starved Denver isn't going to be the easiest place to get back on track.
"Denver is always a challenge for us especially on a Suzuki," Stoffer said.
However using the famous words of Arnold Schwarzenegger from The Terminator, Stoffer wants everyone to know it's much to soon to count her team out.
"We'll be back."
Stoffer extended a special thanks to all of the 2006 sponsors.
