Stoffer poised to defend
event title and qualify for elite eight
(Reading, pre-race) This is the one.
Ever since the NHRA announced its new championship point structure
last season, competitors have been vying to stay inside the top
eight in the standings heading into this weekend’s Toyo
Tire NHRA Nationals from Reading, Pa.
Following the event only the racers ranked in the top eight will
qualify for the next stage of the point series. Heading into the
race Karen Stoffer, rider of the Geico-Suzuki, is ranked fourth
and is on pace to turn in the best season of her career. She garnered
a pair of event victories early in the year to solidify her spot
in the elite eight.
”Our goal is to finish this season the same way we started,”
Stoffer said. “We have had a tough couple of races here
in the summer but we are set to get back on track. We had a part
malfunction in Brainerd and we are ready to put that behind us.”
Based on her history there, Reading will be a great track for
Stoffer to embark on another streak of success. Last year she
won the event and became the final member of the Mickey Thompson
Six Second Club. She also finished runner-up at Reading in 2002.
”This track has been great for us,” Stoffer said.
“We got great power and great sponsors and we are ready
to leave our mark.”
Stoffer went on to extend
special thanks to all of the 2007 sponsors and supporters.
