Stoffer aiming
to realize Indy dream
By: Jack Korpela
Indianapolis Pre Race - Ask
any drag racer, if they could only win one event in their career,
what would it be? Undoubtedly an overwhelming amount would say,
The NHRA US Nationals from Indianapolis, Ind.
The US Nationals is generally regarded as NHRA’s version of
the Daytona 500 – the largest and most prestigious event of
the year.
GEICO-backed NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Karen Stoffer is hoping
to add an Indy win to her resume this weekend.
“I’ve always dreamed of winning this race. We had the
opportunity to do some testing and I feel really good about what
we are bringing to the table,” Stoffer said. “The team
has done a terrific job the last few races.”
Stoffer is hot off of a semifinal finish two weeks ago in Memphis,
Tenn., that moved her up one spot to No. 6 in the POWERade point
series. Currently Stoffer is 249 points behind the leader and only
19 outside of the top five.
“Obviously there is a lot on the line,” Stoffer said.
“Not only is this the biggest race of the year, but the season
is winding down and every round win is precious.”
For Stoffer the action begins on 6:15 on Friday with the first session
of Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying and it culminates during final
eliminations on Monday afternoon.
Cheer on Stoffer and Team Geico during this weekend’s extensive
ESPN 2 television coverage.
